Efforts to improve the iconic Welsh Black cattle breed have been given a boost thanks to a new scheme funded by Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales.
The Welsh Black Cattle Society will receive £60,000 under the Rural Development Plan for Wales to performance record animals in terms of growth and ability.

The retiring Society President Mr Trefor Jones, Cwmcae, Bow Street, Ceredigion won the Champion Bull award and his son Mr Huw Jones, Llety Cynnes, Bow Street won the Champion Maiden Heifer award at the pre-sale show held on Friday 28 May 2010 at Llandovery Market.
Tithebarn, c/o Mr Rheinallt Williams Regional Manager within Wales, has continued to support the Welsh Black cattle store and pedigree breeding sales in 2010. This included rewarding the highest priced animals at the Llandovery Store Sale on Friday 21 May 2010.
Gwynfryn and Marian Phillips, Dancoed, Cwm Gwaun, Abergwaun in Pembrokeshire were installed as joint Presidents at the Welsh Black Cattle Society’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held Saturday 8 May 2010 at the Park Lodge Hotel, Aberystwyth.
Exhibitors in the following list of 17 shows will qualify for points towards the prestigious Society competition – Bull & Female of the Year.
