New Year sale promises to be good for Society


The 54th annual winter show and sale to be organised by the Welsh Black Cattle society for Tuesday 12th January 2010 at Dolgellau promises to offer a new year treat to perspective cattle buyers.

 

At its first draft copy, prior to closing entries for the sale already 96 animals consisting of 63 females which include 59 maiden heifers and 33 breeding bulls have been entered for the New Year sale.
The cattle are forwarded from at least 30 different vendors with 94% of the animals sold as Certified monitored free of johne’s disease or with a clear herd test for johne’s disease. Several animals are certified Accredited free of BVD with some even Certified Accredited free of IBR. 5 animals are sold from ‘elite health status herds’ which confirm that the animals are certified monitored free of Johne’s disease and Certified Accredited free of BVD,IBR and Leptospirosis.
Herd health is important and with nearly all cattle on offer at the New Year sale of the highest order buyers can be reassured that they are purchasing both quality breeding with good herd health status said the society Chief Executive Mr Andrew James.
The choice is endless with 12 animals of organic bred status, 1 naturally polled bull which is also signet recorded, with estimated breeding values which confirms its genetic potential.
The judges are Mr Keith Thomas, Tycoch, Dryslwyn in Carmarthenshire who is responsible for judging the female cattle. Mr Thomas is supported by the society young member Ambassador Miss Angharad Fransis, Pistyll uchaf, Abergorlech in Carmarthenshire. Both judges are national winners in stock judging from the YFC competitions including open classes.
Judging the four  bull classes are Mr Gwyn Corfield, Glanwye, Newbridge on Wye in Radnorshire. Mr Corfield who has been a loyal stockman for some of the leading Welsh Black Cattle herds in Wales for over 50 years will be joined by young member Mr Dafydd Ellis, Ynysfor, Bryncrug in Tywyn, Merionethshire.
Judging will commence at 9am with the sale at 11am prompt.
Sponsors are Tithbarne c/o Regional Manager Mr Rheinallt Williams who is rewarding the highest priced vendor and purchaser of the bull, female and maiden heifer with Tithbarne product vouchers to the value of £25 respectively. A total of £150 sponsorship.
