ADAS Holdings breeds Champion for Royal Welsh Winter Fair


The 20th annual Royal Welsh Winter Fair witnessed a 16 month old Welsh Black heifer scoop the Breed Championship on Tuesday 1 December 2009 at the Builth Wells Showground.

 

Bred by ADAS Wales, Pwllpeiran, Cwmystwyth, Ceredigion and exhibited by Derrick and Lynn Davies, Tynddraenen near Aberystwyth, the 379kg heifer was not sold at the auction.  The Davies brothers have won the Welsh Black Breed Championship for 3 consecutive years and, on all 3 occasions, with an ADAS bred pedigree Welsh Black animal.
The Reserve Breed Steer Champion was Seisiog Baron 60th.  Weighing 556kgs the 18 month old steer was bred and exhibited by Mr Tecwyn Jones and family, Ty Newydd, Nebo, Llanrwst in Denbighshire.  The steer was sired by Seisiog Bedwyr 129th, Society Bull of the Year in 2008, and out of Seisiog Ceinlyn 67th.

Pedigree Welsh Black Heifer (4 entries)
1st Meinir Gwilym – Exhibited by Derrick and Lynn Davies, Tynddraenen, Trefenter, Aberystwyth.  The heifer was bred by ADAS Wales, Pwlpeiran, Cwmystwyth.
2nd Penwernhir Mairwen 6th – Exhibited by Mr &Mrs I & A Lewis and Son, Gwarcoed Einon, Llanwenog, Llanybydder, Carmarthenshire.  The heifer was bred by Mr Doug Rowbotham, Penwernhir, Pontrhydyfendigaid, Aberystwyth.
3rd Clegir Lily – Bred and exhibited by Messrs GW & RW Thomas & Sons, Llechwedd, Tyn Lon, Holyhead, Anglesey.
4th Coedllys Meriel 11th – Bred and exhibited by William and Meinir Davies, Brynglas, Ponterwyd, Aberystwyth.

Pedigree Welsh Black Steer (7 entries)
1st Seisiog Baron 60th – Bred and exhibited by Mr Tecwyn Jones, Ty Newydd, Nebo, Llanrwst, Denbighshire.
2nd Gwarcwm Max 29th – Bred and exhibited by Mr D Huw Jones, Llety Cynnes, Bow Street, Ceredigion.
3rd Geraint – Exhibited by Derrick and Lynn Davies, Tynddraenen, Trefenter, Aberystwyth.  The steer was bred by ADAS Wales, Pwllpeiran, Cwmystwyth, Ceredigion.
4th Coedllys Brenin – Bred and exhibited by William and Meinir Davies, Brynglas, Ponterwyd, Aberystwyth.

Conclusion
A total of 4 heifers and 7 steers competed in the pedigree Welsh Black classes and 1 heifer and 5 steers were sold at the sale.
A further 2 Welsh Black steers, that had not previously competed, were entered in the Steer Class ‘Sired by a pure bred native breed bull’.
