Top Genetics Young Sire Available to all


A home bred polled Welsh Black young Sire has recently successfully produced 750 straws of semen to become available to both pedigree and commercial beef produces in the United Kingdom.

 

 

 

 

Morlais Dewi Sant born 22/03/2008, herd book volume 98 was bred and is currently owned by Mr Hywel Rhys Davies, Cefn Don Farm partnership, c/o John’s Garage, Rhigos Road, Hirwaun near Aberdare in Glamorgan.
The bull which qualified for semen collection was based at UK Sire Services Ltd whose headquarters are based in Devon.
Morlais Dewi Sant was one of nine Morlais young sires in the breeds 18 best SIGNET performance recorded bulls born since 1st January 2008, and was number one young sire from the group with an estimate beef value of 36.
The Morlais herd was established in 1972 and was amongst the first Welsh Black herds to adopt performance recording and use the results as an essential tool in herd improvement. The herd apart from a few bought in bulls has been a closed herd for over twenty years.
Herd health plays an important role in cattle breeding at Cefn Don Farm partnership who have never had a TB breakdown and is accredited free of Johne’s disease and BVD. The herd are also free of IBR and Lepospirosis and is a long standing member of the Welsh Black Cattle Society Health Scheme in conjunction with the Scottish Agricultural collages.
