Champion Bull sells for 14,000gns


Ysguboriau Brenin 75th, Vol 98, at 21½ months of age led the highest price at the Welsh Black Cattle Society sale on Friday 29th January 2010.

The home bred bull from William Jones Ysguboriau, Tywyn weighed 1000Kgs and was sold to Emyr Jones, Graig Goch, Nebo near Llanrwst.
Another of Ysguboriau bulls namely Llywelyn 49th, Vol 98, at 21½ months was sold for 10,000gns. The bull weighing 800Kgs was sold to Messrs Williams, Tyddyn Bach, Llanfachreth Dolgellau.
Caerynwch Major 4th, Vol 98 at 19½ months of age a first prize winner in his class and weighing 800Kgs was sold for 11,000gns.
Bred and sold by Mr T W Williams Caerynwch Farm, Dolgellau the bull was purchased by William Jones, Ysguboriau, Tywyn.
The 3rd prize class winner to the champion bull was sold for 9,000gns. Iwrch Limited Edition Vol 97 was bred and sold by Alun Vaughan, Moel Iwrch Uchaf, Nebo Llanrwst. The 25½ month old bull weighing 860Kgs was bought by Dai Jones Berthlwyd, Llanilar near Aberystwyth.
Seisiog Max 67th Vol 98, at 19½ months of age and weighing 810Kgs was sold for 8,000gns. The 2nd prize winner bred and sold by Messrs Tecwyn and Janice Jones Ty Newydd, Nebo, Llanrwst was bought by John Blackburn, Plas Nantyr, Glynceiriog, near Llangollen.
The Third prize class winner, Conwy Bob Vol 98 was sold for 6,600gns. The 19½ month old bull which was bred and sold by Gwyn Roberts, Groesffordd Farm, Glan Conwy, Colwyn Bay weighed 770Kgs. The bull was bought by Messrs Jones, Talymignedd Isaf, Nantlle, Caernarfon.
The youngest bull at the sale Caran Dewin Du Vol 98 at 14½ months of age was sold for 6,000gns.
The bull bred and sold by D. Bennett Jenkins, Cerrigcaranau, Talybont, Ceredigion weighed 750Kgs and was bought by Gareth James, Bernards Well Isaf, Tufton, Haverfordwest.

The highest prized female of the day was the first animal to be sold fetching 2,050gns. Nantrhys Ebrill 20th Vol 95 at 3½ years of age was in-calf and sold to Lleyn Leisure and Rural Services, Bodrydd, Rhosirwaen, Pwllheli.
The Champion female in the pre-sale show ring was bred and sold by Mr and Mrs Dai Jones, Berthlwyd, Llanilar near Aberystwyth.

The highest priced maiden heifer was Mynach Gwyneth 24th Vol 97 which was sold for 1,650gns. The 2nd prize winner bred and sold by Messrs A and RC Williams, Pentre, Cwmtirmynach, Bala was sold to Elfed Williams, Plas Padog, Betws-y-coed, Gwynedd.
The champion maiden heifer, Mynach Susan 7th bred and sold by Messrs A and RC Williams, Pentre, Cwmtirmynach, was sold for 1,300gns.
Purchasing the prize winning maiden heifer was Messrs Lewis, Gwarcoed Einion, Llanwenog near Llanybyther in Carmarthenshire.
The reserve champion maiden heifer Seisiog Awena 62nd Vol 97 was sold for 1,400gns. Bred and sold by Messrs Tecwyn and Janice Jones, Tynewydd, Nebo near Llanrwst.
Purchasing the heifer was David Roberts, Tyn Llidiart, Llandegla Road, Llanarmon-yn-Ial near Mold.

 

Summary

The Society Winter sale at Dolgellau witnessed 109 animals entered, 93 animals forwarded and 86 animals sold.
The bull judge Mr Gwyn Corfield from Newbridge on Wye said he believed “this sale was the best bull sale held for years” with average bull prises well up on the previous year’s sale.
“Farmers were bidding from Northumberland to Devon and Suffolk and throughout Wales” said a pleased Chief Executive officer Mr Andrew James. The January sale always attracts great interest and this sale in particular in the bull section
