Welsh Blacks set store in sales North and South
Welsh Black Cattle devotees had not one but two sales to choose from this week, as pedigree cattle went under the hammer at store sales in Llandovery and Dolgellau.
The first sale was a sell out at Llandovery Market on Wednesday (25/10/06) where 30 vendors entered 136 pedigree Welsh Black Store Cattle.
Making his debut and selling his first store steer was 12 year-old Carwyn Lewis, Gwarcoedeinion, Llanwenog, Llanybydder. He sold the 19 month-old steer weighing 570kgs for £600 to Oriel Jones, Macwith Castle , Llanfihangel-ar-Arth near Pencader.
Mr Jones was one of 13 buyers at the sale which was sponsored by Richard Lawrence of Tithebarn. The auctioneers were Clee, Tomkinson & Francis, Llandovery.

Two steers aged 14 and 15 months and weighing 420kgs took the Junior Steer prize and were sold by Jones Lewis a'i Gwmni, Rhyd-y-God isa, Pont Creuddyn, Llanbed and bought by Oriel Jones.
"The sale was on par with October 2005's trade at Llandovery," said Welsh Black Cattle Society Chief Executive, Andrew James.

Some 220 Welsh Black store cattle were sold, 70% of which were registered as pedigree with the WBCS.
