Cilfodig Herd dispersal

The dispersal sale of the Cilfodig Herd of Welsh Black cattle took place on 10th September at the farm of Mr Derek Evans and family, Llandefalle, Brecon.  Auctioneers were Matthew Nicholls B.Sc (Hons) MRICS MNAVA of Sunderlands and Thompsons LLP, Hay-on-Wye.

A great number of people supported the farm sale, where sheep and machinery were also on offer.

9 cows and calves sold, with the top price of £1,720 for a cow with her spring born bull calf at foot.  The oldest cow for sale was born in 2004 and she, along with her heifer calf at foot, made £1220.

Other prices:

2012 cow with a bull calf sold for £1660

2009 cow with a bull calf sold for £1,510

2010 cow with a heifer calf sold for £1,500

Two 2008 and 2009 cows with their spring born calves sold for £1,360 and £1,400

2007 cow with a heifer calf sold for £1280.

Most of the cows and calves were not moving far away as they were bought by a new entrant to the breed, Mr Lewis Edwards who lives across the road!

 

The top price for a heifer was £1,400, sold to Mr Ross Williams who is another new member from Pembrokeshire.

4 other heifers, born in spring 2015, sold for £1,300 to £820 depending on age.

3 steers were sold in pairs with prices ranging from £990 to £940.

2 barrens sold for £1030 and £800.

The stock bull was sold for £3,450 to Mr Meirion Botwood, Ystrad meurig.  The bull was bred by Mr T. Jones, Nebo (Seisiog Herd) and was born in 2009.
