ROBUST TRADE FOR WELSH BLACK HEIFERS

The first Autumn Sale of Welsh Black Cattle was held at Monmouthshire Livestock Centre on 10th November 2017, which resulted in a robust trade for in calf and maiden heifers.

Champion of the day went to Marian Phillips with Dancoed Mari 7th, a March 2015 born heifer that sold for 1,500gns to J.C.W Williams & Son, Usk. Mrs Phillips also sold Dancoed Blodeuwedd 15th, an April 2016 born heifer that sold to A. L. Williams, 47 Ladyhill, Usk, for 1,150gns.

Champion Maiden heifer Lucton Bethan 6th April 2016 sold by Mr &Mrs C. Thorpe for 1,400gns to K. Glaister, St Donats.  The Thorpe’s also secured second prize and 1,200gns for Lucton Menna 11th, an April 2016 born heifer that sold to L. & G. Roberts, Waterloo Service Station, Abergele.

Third prize was secured by D. Glyn Thomas for his heifer Dyfnant Fancy 10th, born May 2015 and had been running with Llechwedd Rhys 47th who was bought by Mr Thomas in the January 2017 sale at Dolgellau for 15,000gns.  The heifer was sold to L & G Roberts Waterloo Service Station, Abergele for 1,200gns.

A consignment of 3 heifers forward by Messrs D. M. Davies & Son, Cathedine averaged 1,053gns.

Mrs E. M. Davies Cwm Moel, Builth Wells sold Cwmhenllwyn Nest 3rd, a May 2015 born heifer, for 1,000gns to A. D. Jones, Oswestry.

Top Seller of the day at 1,600gns was cow and calf Syfni Enid 4th sold by G & D James, Clarbeston Road, who also sold two more cows with calves at heel for an average of 1,360gns.

Martyn Thomas & Co Ltd of Brecon sold 10 maiden heifers aged 14 – 18 months, averaging 1,084gns.  Topping this consignment was Pantyrhuad Teleri 5th, born August 2016, that sold to T & C. Dyke, Bailey Brith, Powys for 1,350gns.

Averages:  3 cows and calves - 1,360gns

                 3 in calf heifers - 1,393gns

                 25 Maiden heifers - 1,004gns.
