WELSH BLACK BULL tops 11,800gns as a large ringside of buyers attended the 62nd Annual Winter Show and Sale of Welsh Black cattle on the 9th January 2018 at Farmers Marts, Dolgellau.
Main sponsor of the event was Farmers Guardian and during the Show Farmers Guardian Rosettes were handed out to the winners. Other Sponsors were BIBBY, Ifor Williams Trailers, Streamline Leisure and KiwiKit and we thank all for their support.
Commanding the top price of 11,800gns, and 2nd in his class, was Hafodesgob Edward 19th born November 2016 from the herd of Mrs Gwenfair Jones and Sons, Bala and sold to Enzo Sauro of Pontyberem.
Also in the money for the Jones family was Hafodesgob Hari 16th, born November 2016, that sold for 9,000gns to L. R. Williams & Co, Tyddyn Bach, Dolgellau.
Champion bull was Graig-Goch Banner 14th, born Sept. 2016, forward by Emyr and Gerwyn Jones, Graig-Goch, Llanrwst, and sold to D. G. Jenkins, Tanyrallt, Talybont for 5,400gns.
Mr R. Williams, Tyddyn Bach, Dolgellau also achieved 5,400gns for Machreth Nathan 23rd, born March 2016, and sold to W. R. Jones & Co., Ysguboriau, Tywyn.
First in his class was Ynysfor Emlyn 6th, born Jan. 2016, forwarded by Ken Ellis & Sons,Ynysfor, Tywyn that sold to S.G. & M Owen, Tynddraennen, Ystrad Meurig for 4,800gns.
Reserve Champion bull was awarded to Messrs A & R C Williams, Pentre, Bala for Mynach Cai 9th, born May 2016, and sold for 4,000gns to D. Morris, Merddyn, Llanrug.
A further 21 bulls went under the hammer and found new homes, averaging 3,214gns.
Judging the bulls were Mr Geoff Jones, Esgair, Erwood, Builth Wells assisted by Mr Dafydd Davies, Penbryn Coch, Parc, Bala.
Champion Female was Tryfil Ethel 9th, born May 2015, forward by Mr I. G. Roberts, Tryfil, Anglesey, and sold to Osian Williams, Carreg-y-ffordd, Talybont for 2,150gns, adding to his newly established herd.
The Highest priced female was forward by Ken Ellis and Sons, Ynysfor, Tywyn. Ynysfor Enfys 3rd, (2nd prize) born August 2015, had been running with Brysgaga Berwyn 45th and sold to Enzo Sauro for 2,750gns. The same buyer acquired Ynysfor Gwenno 6th, (3rd prize) born June 2015, for 2,100gns.
Champion Maiden Heifer was Graig-Goch Memi 59th, born Sept 2015, that sold for 2,050gns to the Judge of the females, Mr Ll. Roberts, Abergele who was ably assisted by Miss Lisa King from Heathfield, East Sussex.
Mr Dilwyn Jenkins, Caran Herd, Talybont presented five organic bred Maiden Heifers and took Reserve Champion Maiden heifer with Caran Molly 16th,born May 2016, that sold to Enzo Sauro, Pontyberem for 2,450gns. Mr Sauro also purchased Caran Angharad 3rd, born April 2016, (3rd prize) for 1,900gns.
Mr D. Morgan, Alltgoch, Talybont secured Caran Angharad 4th (2nd prize) for 1,950gns and Caran Molly 17th (2nd prize) for 2,400gns, with Mr D. R. Bowen of White House, Narberth purchasing Caran Ceri 36th for 1,450gns.
Rhydygarnedd Norma 11th and Rhydygarnedd Nerys 111th were presented by Messrs Williams, Rhydygarnedd, Tywyn and sold for 1,500gns each to Mr C. M. Jones, Crugan, Pwllheli.
Mr Dafydd G. Jones Tanrallt, Talybont, presented 12 organic heifers and all found new homes, with Arglwyddes Riwbi 10th, born April 2016, selling to R. T. Richards, Bronllan, Llansannan for 1,600gns and Arglwyddes Catrin 46th, born July 2016, selling to A & W Jones, Braich Du, Corwen for 1,600gns.
Extremely popular at the Annual sale is the weaned calves and this sale was no exception with KiwiKit presenting a hoodie to the Williams family, Caerynwch, Dolgellau on the success of 1st prize winner Caerynwch Gwyneth 72nd, born June 2017, realizing 1,000gns and Caerynwch Mai 97th, born June 2017, realizing 870gns, both selling to Mr Enzo Sauro.
The 2nd prize was awarded to Bro-Waen Fioled 2nd born June 2017, forward by Mr Alwyn Morris and sold to Mr Ll. Roberts, Abergele for 890gns.
