Welsh Black Cattle Society President
New President of the Welsh Black Cattle Society is Mrs Jane Davies of Maes-y-Castell, Taliaris, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire SA19 7NN. Jane and husband Gareth, along with their family, breed the 'Castell Herd' of Welsh Black cattle which was established in 1946.
The Open Day and farm walk hosted by Jane and her family was a treat for visitors. The weather was fantastic although rain the previous day had made the ground slightly slippery for the tractors and trailers. This made the trip more exciting!
The cattle were in fine form and displayed to all the Welsh Black cows at their best doing a great job producing and rearing lovely calves. Using both Welsh Black and Charolais bulls on the farm showed that the cow can do such a good job of rearing first class pedigree Blacks and cross bred cattle, catering for both sides of the beef industry.
Visitors were treated to a hog roast and ice-cream from ‘Mario’ and Mr John Davies, farmer and NFU Deputy President, gave a talk on the farming industry.
This was a great day for breeders and members to get together and the Society sends a big ‘thank you’ to the Davies family for showing farming at its best and promoting the breed.
