A strong trade for Welsh Black Bulls seen at the Society’s 61st Winter Show and Sale at Dolgellau, sponsored by HSBC and BIBBY. Bids reached 16,000gns, for LLECHWEDD RHYS 47th
The April 2015 born home bred bull, with Trefaes Twm 2nd bloodlines was sold by Mr William Hefin Evans, Eithin Fynydd, Talybont, Merioneth, and was knocked down to Mr D. G. & B. Thomas, Aberdyfnant, Llangadog, Carmarthen. Ifor Thomas their son had officiated as junior judge of bulls on the day. Congratulations to Mr Hefin Evans & Family Eithinfynydd, Talybont, Gwynedd. Mr Rhys Francis Llangadog judged the bulls and chose as his Champion Bull LLECHWEDD TWM 35TH again with Trefaes Twm 2nd as his sire and came from the same herd as the top price of the day, June 2015 born and knocked down to I. G. & J. D. Roberts, Tryfil Isaf, Anglesey for 6,500 gns.
Reserve Champion bull TYNYGRAIG SION April 2015 born was forward by E.W. & M. Jenkins, Tynygraig, Ceredigion and sold to Messrs Jones, Talymignedd Isaf, Caernarfon, for 9,000 gns
Third highest price of the day went to CAERYNWCH SAM bred and sold by T. W. Williams & Co. for 7,400 gns. to A.L. Jones, Brynllech Uchaf, Bala. Two bulls sold for 5,000 gns. one from Ynysfor Meirion 6th bred by Ken Ellis & Sons, sold to Mr D. D. Morgan Alltgoch Aberystwyth, with the other, DEINIOLEN MAJOR 6th bred by Michael Wyn Jones & Son, August 2015 born and awarded 2nd prize in show selling to E. W & M. Jenkins, Tynygraig, Aberystwyth.
For 4,600 gns. GRAIG GOCH BEDWYR 57th 1st prize sold to H. C. Edwards & Sons Ltd. Maesgwyn, Brecon, with LLWYNSARN CAWR 10TH realising 4,400 gns sold to M. P. Jones & Son, Ffridd Bryncoch, Dolgellau. Also realising 4,000 gns. was HAFODESGOB BENNETT, for Mrs Gwenfair Jones & Sons with Caran Deryn Du as Sire and sold to Mr G. Jones, Blaencwm, Llangollen.
Highest price Female PENWERNHIR NANSI 12TH a maiden heifer organically bred by Doug Rowbotham of Ceredigion with Iwrch Limited Edition as sire was sold for 3,400gns to Mr Huw Roberts, Gyrn, Bala.
Second highest price female was from the Ysguboriau Herd of William R Pughe Jones with Hafodyresgob breeding, YSGUBORIAU DWYNWEN 148TH in calf sold to E. M. & H. D. Roberts, Ffridd, Pwllheli for 2,500gns.
Champion Female was awarded to TRYFIL BRIALLEN 12th from the Herd of Mr I. G. Roberts, and sold to Mr B. W. Thomas, Chwaen Goch, Anglesey for 2,000gns.
Champion Maiden Heifer GRAIG GOCH CERI 36th from Emyr and Gerwyn Jones, Graig Goch Herd Llanrwst sold for 1,650gns. to Mr B. W. Jones Chwaen Goch, with Reserve Champion Maiden Heifer MYNACH NON 19th June 2015 born from the Williams’ Pentre, Bala selling to Junior judge of females Rhidian Bowen, Narberth, Pembs for 1400 gns.
Second highest price and awarded 1st prize in the Maiden Heifers went to GRAIG GOCH MERIEL 21st from M/s Emyr and Gerwyn Jones, Llanrwst and knocked down to Mr B. W. Thomas, Chwaen Goch Anglesey for 2,750 gns.
2nd prize in the maidens went to DEICWS HANA 13th bred by Mr G. C. Williams, and bought by Rhian Davies, Gerddi Gleision, Llanbrynmair for 1,080 gns. which was closely followed by BRYNLLECH AGNES 7th sold for 1,040 gns. to Morgan Farms, Aberdar. Another maiden heifer forward by Mrs Gwenfair Jones & Sons HAFOESGOB AGNES 70th sold for 1,450 gns. to Morgan Farms, Aberdar.
There was a keen interest shown for the under one year old calves, with good entries forward from H. W. Jones, Llwynsarn, Dolgellau and Messrs Williams & Co, Caerynwch, Dolgellau. Champion on this occasion was given to CAERYNWCH GWENFAIR 80TH June 2016 born calf, sold to John Davies, Pentre Merthyr Cynog, Brecon for 700 gns.
